Liposuction
It can be very frustrating – you exercise regularly, you do your best to eat healthy, and you just can’t seem to get rid of those areas of excess fat, the ones that clothing only seems to highlight instead of disguise. Well, it’s time to end the negative self-talk once and for all (or at least about this!), because liposuction can help you achieve your contouring goals. You may finally be able to say goodbye to your “love handles”, “saddlebags”, “muffin tops”, “thunder thighs”, and all of those other fatty areas that drive you crazy!
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure which can precisely target and permanently remove pockets of excess fat around your chin, chest, arms, abdomen, flanks (sides), hips, thighs, and knees, as well as other areas of the body. Liposuction can also be used to enhance various body contouring procedures (arms lifts, tummy tucks, lower body lifts, thigh lifts), providing an even slimmer figure and more evenly-contoured shape. Liposuction may also be performed on the chest for men with gynecomastia (excess breast tissue).
Is liposuction right for me?
If you are looking to refine and rejuvenate your contours, then liposuction may be a good fit for you. It is not intended to be a weight loss procedure, and is most effective if you are at or near your target weight (generally within 15% or 25 pounds of it) but have areas that simply don’t respond to diet or exercise. Having good skin elasticity will also help provide the best results (so that your skin can shrink and conform to your new contours).

Common areas treated by liposuction are the chin, breast, tummy, and thighs. Learn how this procedure is performed, how much it costs, and more!
Traditional Liposuction
Liposuction is completed on an outpatient basis. Sedation is typically used for safety and comfort. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is performed when appropriate. The procedure is performed by inserting small suction tubes through short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near fat deposits. Once a tube is in place, excess fat is removed.
Smartlipo
Smartlipo laser body contouring is a minimally invasive, laser-assisted lipolysis procedure that targets trouble spots like the abdomen, arms, buttocks, thighs, and neck to eliminate fat. Smartlipo may provide more dramatic improvements with greater results, minimal downtime, and less pain than traditional liposuction. The Smartlipo laser fiber is inserted through a very small tube into your body. The laser ruptures the fat cell membranes, destroying the fat cells. The liquefied fat is then gently suctioned out. Because Smartlipo tightens the skin through coagulation, you should not have to worry about dimpling and sagging skin. Three wavelengths provide targeted treatments to disrupt fat, coagulate blood vessels, and stimulate collagen, which helps to tighten skin and improve elasticity.PrecisionTx Laser
The PrecisionTx laser treatment is a type of Smartlipo designed for the neck area to give you a defined look without a surgical facelift. This is a minimally invasive procedure, performed under local anesthesia, to tighten the skin and remove fat. Tiny incisions are made to fit a very small cannula with a laser fiber (about the size of the tip of a pen), underneath your skin. Thermally controlled laser energy is delivered to the treatment area to stimulate collagen production in the dermis. You may experience light pressure and minimal discomfort during the procedure and some soreness afterwards. You should be able to return to your normal activities in a few days.Podcast Episode: Different Types of Liposuction
Specialized types of liposuction can help to remove different types of fat from different areas of the body, and can be combined to provide a custom solution for patients. Learn about vacuum liposuction, power liposuction, laser liposuction, general costs, and more!
Recovery after liposuction
The patient leaves surgery with a compression garment covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month to reduce swelling and helps to achieve faster recovery. Initial discomfort can be controlled with oral medication. Activity may be resumed in 3 to 4 days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 3 to 4 weeks. Bruising and swelling typically subside in 2 to 4 weeks. Optimal results should be apparent in 3 to 4 months.
Why Choose Us?
Dr. Normington and Dr. Moya are board certified plastic surgeons who are specially trained in aesthetics and body contouring. When evaluating their patients, they can determine if Smartlipo is the proper treatment or if another surgical option would provide the patient with optimal results. Our doctors also have the option of performing the procedure under general anesthesia in one of our two private operating rooms, if needed.
Compare all of this to other offices in the area, where Smartlipo is performed only under local anesthesia by a family doctor.
Insurance Guidelines
Because this procedure is considered to be cosmetic, the cost is not covered by insurance and must be paid by the patient. The cost of liposuction can be determined during a consultation with one of our surgeons.
