Botox

Botox Cosmetic, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is a popular and effective solution for facial lines and wrinkles. Through a simple injection, Botox can soften or even eliminate wrinkles commonly caused by stress, environmental factors and skin damage, or the natural aging process. In addition to treating lines and wrinkles, Botox can have several additional benefits including nonsurgically lifting the brows and more. Using advanced injection techniques, Dr. Normington, Dr. Moya and RN Injector, Katie at Lewisburg Plastic Surgery offer a natural-looking, refreshed, and youthful appearance with Botox.

Before & After Photos

How Does Botox Work?

Botox works using a purified form of the botulinum bacterium, which temporarily and safely paralyzes the muscles where it is injected by blocking the nerves. The product was initially developed to reduce muscle spasms before the discovery of its cosmetic application was made. In temporarily paralyzing the muscles of the face, Botox reduces so-called “dynamic wrinkles.” This includes wrinkles that form and worsen from repeated facial expressions, such as horizontal forehead lines, vertical “eleven lines” or frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and more.

Botox results are not permanent. Over time, the body will naturally regenerate nerve receptors in the treated area and return to free muscle movement. On average, patients enjoy Botox results for about four months. After the effects have worn away, you can receive repeated maintenance injections.

Skin wrinkles or furrows, such as on the forehead or around the eyes, are caused by the underlying muscles. Botox – or Botulinum toxin – is a medical chemical designed to temporarily weaken or relax those muscles, allowing the skin to be smoother.

Botox Treatment

At Lewisburg Plastic Surgery, Botox injections are administered by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Normington and Dr. Moya as well as our registered nurse injector, Katie. They are considered “Diamond Providers” by Allergan, the producer of Botox. This means that they perform more Botox treatments than any other provider in Central Pennsylvania and can offer special programs and rebates through the manufacturer.

Botox injections can be completed in as little as ten minutes. After a brief consultation to review your goals and health history, your provider will determine the precise injection points based on the muscles that affect your unwanted wrinkles the most. Next, a series of injections are made directly to these muscles using small needles. Anesthesia is not necessary, however, your provider may recommend numbing the area using a topical cream prior to treatment. Most patients tolerate Botox injections well, finding discomfort to be minimal.

One of the many benefits of Botox is that the treatment requires no downtime. Patients can immediately return to their normal routines. Some minimal side effects can include tenderness, slight swelling, redness, and occasional bruising at the injection site. Your provider will provide specific aftercare instructions, including avoiding direct sun exposure or applying pressure to the injection site.

If you are satisfied with your Botox results, you can schedule routine maintenance injections to enjoy them over time. On average, Botox lasts about four months.
