Microdermabrasion

Dead, dry, or damaged skin cells at the surface of the skin can contribute to a number of visible concerns. Without healthy exfoliation, the skin can appear dull, aged, and unhealthy. In addition to revealing a smoother and more vibrant surface, healthy exfoliation can improve the skin’s texture and reduce environmental damage, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and more.

At Lewisburg Plastic Surgery, our skincare experts frequently recommend microdermabrasion to improve the skin’s health and appearance. This minimally invasive and nonsurgical treatment gently yet thoroughly removes dead skin cells and impurities using natural diamond chips while simultaneously vacuuming away impurities. This creates a more beautiful, even, and youthful skin surface.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion has several benefits. As a nonsurgical option, it is a great choice for patients who wish to avoid unnecessary downtime or side effects. The procedure is gentle yet effective and can be completed quickly. Microdermabrasion is useful for a range of skin concerns and conditions, including:

  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines
  • Irregular skin texture

Because microdermabrasion physically exfoliates, this treatment can be a good choice for those with sensitivity to chemicals or skincare products.

The Microdermabrasion Procedure

At Lewisburg Plastic Surgery, our team uses the DiamondTome Wand for microdermabrasion. This is similar to the more common particle microdermabrasion or chemical peel methods but reduces irritation by avoiding the use of loose particles. This minimizes the risk of adverse reactions for patients. The diamond tips of the DiamondTome Wand gently remove the top layer of the skin, revealing a more vibrant and healthy surface. At the same time, the vacuum tip removes the exfoliated skin, debris, and other impurities away from the skin.

In some cases, your microdermabrasion provider may recommend the application of carefully selected skincare products following your microdermabrasion procedure to enhance results. This can be discussed during a consultation.

Microdermabrasion using the DiamondTome Wand is completely pain-free and comfortable. The treatment is completed quickly and comfortably in our office at Lewisburg Plastic Surgery. Most patients will benefit from a series of treatments over time to reach and maintain their ideal results.

After Microdermabrasion

There is no downtime required following microdermabrasion. Patients are free to return to their normal routines immediately after treatment if they choose. However, some patients choose a short period of social downtime due to visible side effects including redness. For a majority of microdermabrasion patients, this involves a slight flush which should subside within about 30 minutes depending on your skin type.

Microdermabrasion results are immediately visible as redness subsides. Results will continue to improve with each subsequent treatment, with patients noticing smoother, more vibrant, and healthier-looking skin. A reduction in fine lines and hyperpigmentation is also common.

During your consultation, a long-term treatment plan can be discussed with our skincare experts. Most patients require multiple microdermabrasion treatments to achieve their goal results. The total number of treatments varies depending on your unique concerns, skin type, and other factors. Following microdermabrasion, you should take care to use high-quality skincare products and sun protection in order to enjoy your results over time.
