Cosmetic Tattooing

The specialized techniques used for cosmetic tattooing are often referred to as "micro pigmentation". This cosmetic implantation technique deposits colored pigment into the upper reticular layer of the dermis.

How are these procedures done?
The process includes an initial consultation where the color, shape and density of pigment is determined and and allergy test in performed. There is a 72 hour waiting period after the allergy test. A brief follow up appointment is scheduled in 7-10 days after the procedure to monitor the healing process. Most procedures are completed in one or two sessions. If a second session is required to complete the process, there is no additional charge.

Who benefits from cosmetic tattooing?
Everyone desiring a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. Individuals who are unable to wear cosmetics due to allergies and skin sensitivities, individuals who are active or don't want to worry about sweating off or reapplying cosmetics, and the vision impaired or those with unsteady hands who cannot apply their own makeup, or are just too busy to worry about spending time on their makeup can all benefit from this procedure.

What types of procedures can be done?
Eyebrows: Eyebrows that are too light, sparse, or nonexistent, can be enhanced. Eyebrows are important because they frame your eyes and give your face expression.

Eyeliner: Eyeliner enhances and defines the beauty of the eyes. It makes lashes appear thicker when not wearing mascara.

Eyelash Enhancement: Individual dots of pigment are implanted between each individual eyelash to give the appearance of full lashes.

Lips: Lip color is perfect for asymmetrical shaped lips or lips with uneven vermilion borders and can help avoid the problem of lipstick "bleeding" into the fine lines around the mouth. Individuals who always wear lipstick are good candidates for this procedure.

Scar Camouflage: Cosmetic tattooing can soften and blend the color of a scar to match the surrounding tissue. This technique is also useful to correct loss of skin pigmentation.

Nipple/Areola Complex: This procedure can be used to recreate nipple and areola areas after breast reconstruction surgery.

Hair Simulation: Micropigmentation may be used to give the illusion of hair in bald spots on the scalp area or to fill in bare areas of the eyebrow.

How long will the results last?
Cosmetic tattooing cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo, fading can occur, requiring periodic maintenance to refresh the color. Cosmetic tattooing should be protected from frequent sun exposure and abrasive skin care products.

Is it safe?
When sterilization and sanitary guidelines are met, cosmetic tattooing should be completely safe. Our procedures are performed only by specially trained skincare nurses that are knowledgeable in caring for your skin during the healing process. Procedures are performed under the guidance of a plastic surgeon.
