A skin tag is a small flap of tissue that hangs off the skin by a connecting stalk. These are benign lesions and are not harmful. Skin tags most commonly occur around neck, under breast, armpit area and the groin area. They typically do not cause pain, but occasionally they may become irritated from clothing or jewelry rubbing on them.  Your healthcare provider can remove skin tags by snipping off with scissors or scalpel, with cryotherapy (freezing it off) or with electrocautery (burning with an electric current).
